Netflix Christmas Movies Worth Watching this Holiday Season

Netflix Christmas Movies Worth Watching this Holiday Season

One of my favorite things to do leading up to the holidays is to watch (and rewatch) Christmas movies. And while you can choose from hundreds of movies on Hallmark, Lifetime, and most streaming services, Netflix has a few Christmas movies that I think are definitely worth checking out this year if you haven’t already.

Before we dive into my recommendations I have to make a disclaimer: this list is for anyone who loves cozy, cheesy, slightly humorous Christmas movies that leave you feeling all warm inside. If you love Hallmark Christmas movies then you will love these. Ok, now let’s get to the first movie . . .

Klaus

My first pick would have to be Klaus. It follows a reluctant postman named Jesper who’s spoiled and selfish and hates working for his father, the Royal Postmaster. Hoping Jesper will finally grow up, his father sends him to the worst town on the map – Smeerensburg – and he gives him one task: post 6,000 letters in one year and then he can go back to his carefree life. Sounds easy enough, but Jesper quickly realizes that his task won’t be as easy as he thinks. The citizens of Smeerensburg have been at war for hundreds of years and the last thing they do is send letters to each other. But everything changes when Jesper meets a mysterious old man named Klaus who lives in the woods. Can Jesper and Klaus save the town? You’ll just have to watch and see.

A Christmas Prince

If you like Christmas movies about royal families, faraway kingdoms, and romance, then you will love this next film. A Christmas Prince is about an American journalist who gets assigned to do a fluff piece on the prince of Aldovia. Rumor has it the prince is kind of a playboy, but the more the journalist gets to know the prince the more she realizes that maybe the press has been wrong about him all along. I absolutely love curling up on the couch with this film because the location is stunning and the story (though cheesy) is very sweet and entertaining. Plus, there are two sequels to the first film, so you could have A Christmas Prince marathon if you wanted to.

Love Hard

This next film is a romantic comedy about a girl named Natalie who begins a relationship with the perfect guy online. They have so much in common, so during the holidays she travels to his hometown to meet him in person only to realize that she’s been catfished by a guy named Josh. At first, she’s angry but after Josh agrees to set her up with the guy he used in his profile pictures, she decides to stay with Josh and his family for Christmas. This movie is pretty funny with lots of likable characters. You’ll find yourself rooting for Josh by the end of it because he’s actually kind of charming.

A California Christmas

This movie is about the spoiled son (named Joseph) of a wealthy real estate tycoon who is sent to close a deal with the owner of a dairy farm that refuses to sell her land. While there, he meets the farm owner’s daughter, Callie, and quickly realizes that this might be the hardest deal of his life. When Callie mistakes him for their new farmhand, she puts him to work. At first Joseph hates farm life – he’s not used to getting his hands dirty – but the longer he stays on the farm and the more he gets to know Callie, the more he learns that anything in life worth having is worth fighting for. This is a really sweet love story and I loved the location. Also, Netflix released a sequel last year and it was also really good.

Holiday in the Wild

When Kate Conrad, a former veterinarian, surprises her husband with a second honeymoon to Zambia, Africa, she hopes to rekindle the flame between them. But her plans take a detour when her husband tells her that he doesn’t love her and doesn’t want to be married anymore. Seeking a distraction, Kate goes to Zambia alone during the holidays. Once there she meets a veterinarian named Derek who runs an elephant sanctuary with his girlfriend. As the two eventually become friends and save elephants from poachers, Kate begins to realize that maybe her life would be better in Africa . . . and maybe with a certain veterinarian. If an exotic Christmas story is what you’re looking for, this is the movie for you.

Silver Skates

The last film on this list is probably the most cinematically stunning one. Think Titanic meets Anastasia meets the Nutcracker, but I must tell you, it has subtitles. This film follows a young man named Matvey who wants nothing more than to provide for his father. When Matvey loses his job as a local delivery boy, he falls in with a gang of ice skating pickpockets and together they target the Ice Ball – a Christmas celebration where all of the aristocrats gather. While there Matvey meets Alisa, the daughter of one of the wealthiest aristocrats and sparks fly. But can they make their relationship work? Will Matvey leave his life of stealing for a new life with Alisa? You’ll just have to check it out to see.
