Gone Fishin’ at Sunrise Catfish Farm in DeRidder, Louisiana

My husband, Denis, and I love to go fishing and one of our favorite spots to visit is the Sunrise Catfish Farm located in DeRidder, Louisiana. If you’ve never heard of Sunrise then you’re in luck – this post is dedicated to them. Just keep on reading to get all of the details . . .

Sunrise Catfish Farm actually used to be a dairy farm where cows were milked for over 20 years. It originally started out with just 2 ponds but now has 5 ponds in total. Each pond is fully stocked with catfish and you can go and fish Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM or Saturday 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM all year round. You don’t need a fishing license and if you forget to bring your own bait or supplies they have a bait shop on the grounds where you can buy bait and rent fishing poles and nets.

You can catch as many fish as you like (no catch and release is allowed) and when you get your fill you can bring them to their Processing Building to be weighed and cleaned. You can even take the fish home as is or you can have the friendly staff at Sunrise fillet them for you. They charge $2.50 per pound if you take the fish as is or you can pay $2.75 per pound for cleaning or $3.25 per pound for fillet (these are current prices but they are subject to be changed).

If you get hungry or thirsty while you wait you can check out their refreshment area which is air conditioned and full of comfy chairs and couches. There you’ll find homemade ice cream, candy, drinks, cinnamon rolls, burgers, peanut brittle, and pull pork sandwiches. They also have toys and board games for the kids if they get tired of fishing.

They even have merchandise

Denis and I have been going to Sunrise Catfish Farm for years and I think two of the main reasons we love it so much is because it’s family-friendly and it’s the perfect place to get away from it all. If you’re looking for a relaxing place to spend time with your family and friends that’s not crowded and easy to get to check out Sunrise Catfish Farm at 155 Milton Schmidt Road, DeRidder, Louisiana 70634. It’s totally worth the visit.

Verse of the Day: And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew, his brother; casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him. – Matthew 4: 18 – 20
