The Gilmore Girls Post

The Gilmore Girls Post

Raise your hand if you know all of the words to this song? Raise your other hand if you know which TV show it’s the theme song for? If you answered Gilmore Girls then you’d be right. Today’s post is all about Gilmore Girls.

My absolute favorite TV show is (and will always be) Gilmore Girls. From the first moment I saw Lorelai and Rory Gilmore on my television screen and got to know all of their wacky neighbors and friends in the small town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, I was hooked.

I was first introduced to the show on ABC Family and after buying all of the DVD Box sets I quickly immersed myself into the quirky, totally relatable world of Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino’s creation. I watched Lorelai beg Luke for coffee and Rory fall in love with Dean – and then Jess and then Logan.

I watched Richard and Emily become a vital part of Lorelai and Rory’s lives and Lane hide her love of music from Mrs. Kim. I laughed at the shenanigans Kirk got into and at the lewd comments Miss Patty and Babette made on a daily basis and at Taylor Doose’s frustrations at every Town Meeting. I giggled at Sookie and Jackson’s banter, at Michel’s rudeness, and at Paris’ sharp-witted zingers. Every episode was like taking a mini vacation to Stars Hollow.

My absolute favorite line of the entire series from Episode 6, Season 5, “We’ve Got Magic to Do”

  • My Favorite Seasons of Gilmore Girls – Season 4 and 5
  • I’m totally Team Logan
  • My Favorite Characters: Lorelai, Rory, Emily, Richard, Paris, Sookie, Lane, and Luke

Season 1 – Episode 9 “Rory’s Dance”

Season 2 – Episode 13 “A-Tisket, A-Tasket”

Season 3 – Episode 7 “They Shoot Gilmores, Don’t They?”

Season 4 – Episode 7 “The Festival of Living Art”

Season 5 – Episode 7 “You Jump, I Jump, Jack”

Season 6 – Episode 15 “A Vineyard Valentine”

Season 7 – Episode 4 “Unto the Breach”

If you love Gilmore Girls then you’ve got to listen to the Gilmore Guys Podcast. It’s hosted by comedian Kevin T. Porter and writer/performer Demi Adejuyigbe and they break down each and every episode of the show in detail. Kevin is a longtime fan of the show while Demi is watching it for the first time. They’re really funny (they call fellow Gilmore Girls fans “Gilleys”) and they have hilarious segments like “Pop! Goes the Culture,” and “F-F-F-F-F-F-Fashion!” that will have you laughing out loud. They even did a few live shows and got to interview cast members from the show. They’re obsessed with Emily Gilmore (“Emily is our queen!”) and Paris so you’ll hear plenty of good things about those characters.

The Gilmore Girls Companion by A. S. Berman

This book is basically the Gilmore Girls Bible. It’s jam-packed with facts and behind-the-scenes information about the show and the cast. A must-read for any Gilley.

The City Baker’s Guide to Country Living by Louise Miller

This book follows a pastry chef named Olivia Rawlings who accidentally burns down the Boston dinner club she works at and moves to the little town of Guthrie, Vermont. While there she gets a job at the Sugar Maple Inn and finds friendships, good food, and love with one of the locals. If you’re a Sookie fan this book is definitely for you.

Eat Like a Gilmore: The Unofficial Cookbook for Fans of Gilmore Girls by Kristi Carlson

Lorelai and Rory are known for their love of junk food and Sookie is always cooking up something good in the Independence Inn and Dragonfly Inn kitchens so every Gilmore Girls fan has to have this cookbook in their collection. Written by superfan Kristi Carlson, it’s full of delicious recipes mentioned in the show.

Talking As Fast As I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (And Everything In Between) by Lauren Graham

This is the book for all Lorelai fans because it’s written by the queen of Stars Hollow herself – Lauren Graham. I really enjoyed reading this one because Lauren gives so many details about her life and behind-the-scenes information about being on the show and in the Netflix revival. Listening to the audiobook version of this book is a real treat because it’s narrated by Lauren Graham so it’s kind of like listening to Lorelai talk about Gilmore Girls.

While Lorelai & Rory never switched bodies they did kind of switch lives in Season 6 when Rory quit college and moved in with her grandparents. This film is perfect to watch if you’re a fan of Season 6.
This film stars Cher as a single mom who totally reminds me of Lorelai set in the 1960s. She has two daughters, Winona Ryder & Christina Ricci, and the film follows the three of them as they move to a small town in Massachusetts and make a life there.
If you like the relationship drama on Gilmore Girls then you’ll love this movie. Julie Roberts plays a step mom to Susan Sarandon’s two kids and the film is all about the ups and downs of their relationships. The movie takes place in New York and there’s also a lot of fall scenes in the movie just like Gilmore Girls.
This movie reminds me of Gilmore Girls because it takes place in a small, Louisiana town and it follows the lives of 6 Southern women as they navigate family, love, and friendship. The small town in this movie kind of reminds me of Stars Hollow because everybody knows everybody.
Every Gilmore Girls fan should see this movie. Not only does it star Alexis Bledel but it follows the lives of four best friends as they share a pair of jeans that mysteriously fits each of them. The film is all about how the girls’ friendship changes as they grow up.
This is the sequel in the Traveling Pants duology and I think Gilmore Girls fans will love it because of the friendship and love the four girls have for each other.
Like the other films on the list, this movie is all about mothers and daughters and relationships. Although the movie mostly focuses on Mandy Moore and Diane Keaton’s relationship there are some really good scenes for you Lorelai fans because Lauren Graham plays one of Mandy Moore’s sisters.
If you’re a Rory fan then this is the film for you. It’s all about a girl who’s just graduated from college and suddenly realizes that she has no idea what to do with her life. Jane Lynch and Carol Burnett also star in the film so there’s plenty of laughs.

What’s your favorite episode and season of Gilmore Girls? Are you Team Dean, Team Jess, or Team Logan? Let me know in the comments.

Verse of the Day: That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. – Romans 10:9-10
