It’s Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus: A Review of Colourpop’s Hocus Pocus Eyeshadow Palettes

Halloween is coming and I can’t wait. I think I’ve watched Hocus Pocus at least a 1000 times by now and I can honestly say it never gets old.

Last year Colourpop cosmetics released a Hocus Pocus makeup collection that included their Gather ‘Round Sisters eyeshadow palette as well as lipsticks, lip liners, and fake lashes. Out of all of the products in the collection, I really wanted the eyeshadow palette, but the entire collection sold out so fast that I missed it – until this year.

This year Colourpop released a second Hocus Pocus inspired makeup collection so I snagged not only the Gather ‘Round Sisters but the newly released Witching Hour eyeshadow palette – and I’ve got to tell you – it was worth the wait.

Let’s start with the Gather ‘Round Sisters palette – it’s a 15 pan eyeshadow palette that includes rich mattes, sparkly metallics, and one pressed glitter. If you’re a fan of the movie then you’ll love the shade names – each of them come directly from the script. And the best part – you can get this palette on the Colourpop website or at Ulta for $22.

Shade names (left to right): Full Moon, Hello Salem, Brew Potion, Oh Toast, Coven, Come Little Children, Tis’ Firm, Thackery Binx, Yabbos, I Call It a Bus, Wench, Night of Frolic, Dead Man’s Toe, Bewitched, Goodbye Cruel World

The new kid on the block is the Witching Hour palette which also costs $22 and can also be found at Colourpop.com and Ulta. Unlike the Gather ‘Round Sisters palette, it’s a 12 pan palette with soft mattes and shiny metallics in bright yet approachable colors. This palette also has a mirror while the first palette doesn’t.

Shade names (left to right): 300 Years, All Hallow’s Eve, Moon is Round, Summon Us, Under the Ground, Bubble Bubble, Twist the Bones, Circle of Salt, Green Newt, Life Potion, Hello Billy, Fur Black as Black

I think that if you’re a Hocus Pocus fan both of these palettes are worth looking into. They have cute cartoon pictures of the Sanderson Sisters and offer you a good range of Fall-inspired colors from cool tones to warm tones. Both are perfect to wear on Halloween or to any Fall outing.

What’s your favorite scene in Hocus Pocus? How many times have you seen the movie?
