When you think of Nashville, Tennessee, there’s one iconic destination that stands out above the rest—the Grand Ole Opry. Known as the “home of country music,” the Opry is more than just a venue. It’s a living, breathing celebration of American music history, and visiting it is a must for anyone traveling to Music City.
I recently had the chance to take a tour of the Grand Ole Opry, and let me tell you—it was magical from start to finish.

Stepping Into Country Music History
The moment you walk through the doors, you can feel the energy of the legends who’ve performed there: Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, and so many more. The walls are lined with photos, memorabilia, and stories that trace the Opry’s journey from its humble radio beginnings in 1925 to the world-renowned stage it is today.
The building itself is stunning. From the grand auditorium to the warm glow of the lights, the space feels both intimate and iconic. Every seat offers a great view, and the acoustics are incredible. I highly recommend booking an early tour because (usually) the group you’ll tour with is smaller.

The highlight for me? Standing in the famous wooden circle—the six-foot circle of stage that was cut from the original Ryman Auditorium and placed center stage at the Opry House. It’s a sacred spot where musical dreams come true, and you can feel its significance the moment you see it. I asked our guide if I could sing and she said yes, so I sang a few lines of the song Goodness of God by Cece Winans. Singing in the circle at the Grand Ole Opry has been on my bucket list for years so I’m really glad I got the chance to check it off.
Taking the Backstage Tour
The Opry offers backstage tours and I definitely recommend taking one. You get to peek behind the curtain at the dressing rooms, hear insider stories, and even stand on the stage yourself. It’s a fun and insightful way to deepen your appreciation for what makes the Opry so special. There’s a few different ways to purchase tickets. You can buy them in person at the Opry, but I think the best way to buy them is online. You just download the AXS app to your phone and make the purchase through the app. Be sure to check the Grand Ole Opry website the day before your visit – just to make sure that tour time you want isn’t sold out.

Whether you’re a lifelong country music fan or just curious about Nashville’s roots, visiting the Grand Ole Opry is an unforgettable experience. It’s not just a show—it’s a piece of living history. From the moment the curtain rises to the final bow, you’ll be swept up in the music, the tradition, and the magic that only the Opry can deliver.
So if you’re planning a trip to Nashville, don’t miss the chance to spend an evening at the Grand Ole Opry. It might just be the highlight of your visit.
