4 Sunscreens You Need for Summer & All Year Long (And 1 Discontinued Favorite)

4 Sunscreens You Need for Summer & All Year Long (And 1 Discontinued Favorite)

In honor of National Sunscreen Day (May 28th) I wanted to share 4 (used to be 5) of my favorite sunscreens. They range from drugstore to K-beauty to high-end and each of them are not only perfect for the summer but for all year round. Sadly, one of them has been discontinued but I wanted to still include it in this list because it was one of my favorites. So let’s jump into the world of sunscreen.

Wearing sunscreen is extremely important because it can protect you from skin cancer as well as aging and sunspots. First off there are two types of sunscreens to choose from – mineral (or physical) and chemical. Both act differently but both are very effective in protecting your skin from the sun.

Mineral sunscreens provide a barrier on the surface of your skin that helps to reflect UV rays away from the sun, while chemical sunscreens penetrate the top layers of the skin to absorb damaging UV rays before they can damage your skin.

There are a lot of sunscreen options out there, but here’s just a few of my faves.

Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Face Sunscreen Lotion with SPF 70 – $9.99

I really love Aveeno products but their Protect & Hydrate sunscreen is one of my favorites because it’s made with antioxidant oat to help soothe and moisturize your skin. Out of all of the sunscreens on this list it has the most traditional white, thick formula but it blends seamlessly into your skin. Plus it can be used on your face and your body. It’s found in most drugstores and Walmart, making it an affordable choice.

Supergoop Glow Screen SPF 40 – $36.00

If you want amazing sunscreen you’ve got to check out Supergoop. They create some of the most innovative SPF products and I absolutely love their Glow Screen because it’s so hydrating and it contains awesome ingredients like hyaluronic acid & Vitamin B to boost moisture. It absorbs into the skin in a matter of seconds and leaves your skin with a pearlescent, radiate glow. It’s also formulated to protect you from blue-light as well as the sun and it’s cruelty-free, gluten free, and vegan.

Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector Lotion SPF 50+ – $49.00

This sunscreen is one of my all-time favorite formulas because it feels more like a lightweight lotion than a sunscreen. It’s smooth and silky and leaves your skin feeling smooth and silky. It’s created with what Shiseido calls “Heat Force Technology” and “Wetforce Technology” which is activated by external heat and perspiration. It is lightly scented but that fades away after you blend it into your skin.

Cosrx Aloe Soothing Sun Cream – $24.00

This sunscreen also feels more like a lightweight moisturizer than a sunscreen. It’s a soft cream that sinks into the skin and doesn’t leave you with a white cast or a greasy layer on your face. One of its main ingredients is aloe arborescens leaf extract which helps to soothe and nourish your skin. Cosrx is a K-beauty brand that offers simple, straight-forward products that work well with most skin types and their sunscreen is one of their best products.

Krave Beauty Beet Shield/Beet the Sun – Discontinued

Krave Beauty discontinued this sunscreen because at the end of 2020 it came out that a number of manufacturers and independent testing labs had formulated sunscreens that were not as effective as they claimed to be. Unfortunately, the Beet Shield (also known as Beet the Sun) was one of the sunscreens in that group. Although you can’t purchase this sunscreen anymore I wanted to include it in this round-up because it was such a nice formula. But if you’re looking for a dupe definitely check out the Cosrx Aloe Soothing Sun Cream.

What’s your favorite sunscreen? Do you prefer mineral or chemical? Have you tried any of the ones mentioned in this post?
